Zygmunt M. ""Ziggy"" Kmiecik, age 65, late of Crest Hill left us to be with his Lord and his son Chris on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. He is survived by Danuta, his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, and a sister, sister-in-law and nieces and nephews who remain in Poland. Ziggy was preceded in death by his son Krzysztof (1999), his parents, parents-in-law and a brother. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Cross Church, Joliet and was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Lemont, church choir and Polish Club. He came to the United States from Poland in 1984. While in Poland Ziggy was active in the Solidarity movement to end Communism. Ziggy loved America and was extremely proud when he realized his dream of becoming an American citizen. Ziggy was very active in the community as a member of Chaney Progressive Club, serving as an officer for many years. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4400, Moran A.C, Slovenian Home, Croatian Cultural Club, Deer Creek Recreation club, and the Polish National Alliance where he held numerous offices. He was employed for many years by Montgomery Wards and Rent-a-Center as an electronics technician. He mentored many people in his field of work, especially Bob and Ivan. Ziggy was an avid and great fisherman and outdoorsmen. He loved fishing vacations and spending time with his many friends, cooking lambs and chickens for many organizations and special events. Ziggy was a warm and loving person who will be missed by all, especially his friends who had piwos with him. ""Raise your glass of cognac"" ""A�?? Sherry Mary.

For those wishing to leave a lasting tribute in Ziggy"s name, memorial donations to Provena Hospice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A Celebration of Ziggy"s Life will begin on Saturday, February 12 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, then in procession to Holy Cross Church, Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial in Polish at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Crest Hill. Visitation will be on Friday, February 11, from 3 ""A�?? 8 PM.
