Zeferino Guzman, Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Zeferino is survived by his loving children, Porfirio (Obdulia), Ramiro, Felipe (Antonia), J. Carmen (Ninfa), Evelia (Salvador) Diaz, Rodolfo (Xochitl), Noel (Socorro), Zeferino Jr. (Leticia), Teresa (Luis) and Ricardo; sweetly known as “Tito” to his 27 cherished grandchildren; 15 loving great-grandchildren; siblings, Porfirio (Josefina) Guzman and Fortunata Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Efigenia (nee Sanchez) Guzman; parents, J. Carmen and Gertrudis Guzman; siblings, Ildifonsa Guzman and Juan Guzman.
Zeferino was born in Villa Juarez, S.L.P, Mexico and lived in Joliet most of his life. He worked for Herlihy Construction for 30 years. After retirement, Zeferino enjoyed traveling and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Tito was a noble, caring and hard-working man who will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Zeferino’s life will begin on Saturday, August 5, 2017 with a prayer service in the funeral home chapel at 9:00 a.m. then driving in procession to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church (205 E. Jackson Street, Joliet, IL 60432) for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home (1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL 60435).
