William J. Skoff

June 4, 1925 — January 6, 2014

William J. Skoff, age 88, of Custer Park, IL entered eternal life on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his loving family by his side.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Judith A. Skoff (nee Schumaker); one brother, Bernard (the late Elizabeth) of Livingston, MA; sister-in-law, Margaret (the late Julius) Skoff; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death his parents, Anton and Barbara Skoff (nee Horvath); three sisters, Mary (Joseph) Ambrozich, Rose (Joseph) Horvatin, and Elizabeth (Martin) Slack; five brothers, Anton Jr. (Veronica), Edward (Mary), Louis, Julius, and John.

William served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from Sept 20, 1943 to April 3, 1946 in Asiatic-Pacific. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Inc after 31 years of service as a tool grinder. He was a member of the Senior Parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. William was a life-long member of VFW Cantigny Post #367 and of the St. Joseph Holy Name Society. He was also a member of St. Francis KSKJ Lodge #29, and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #851.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Joliet Area Community Hospice for their excellent care during this difficult time. A special thanks to neighbors, Al and John and Sue for all of their help during these last few months.

In lieu of flowers memorials in William's name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.

A Celebration of William's life will begin on Friday, January 10, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment and Military Honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will take place, Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, 60435. A prayer service will be conducted by St. Joseph Holy Name Society at 4:30 p.m. and by VFW Cantigny Post #367 at 6:30 p.m.
