Survived by brothers, Michael (Spike) Ercegovich, Reddick III, Joseph Mandac of Elwood, IL; sisters, Mary Lojesli of Joliet, IL, Margaret Comp of Rockford, IL, Francine Krizmanick of Joliet, IL, Judy Kepp of Nioga, IL; son, Wilfred Mandac of Escondido, CA; daughter-in-law, Chon Baird-Mandac of Escondido, CA; grandson, MM2 William L. Mandac USN of Imperial, CA.

Preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (nee Therien) Mandac; parents, Chris and Amelia Mandac; brothers, Anthony Kutler, John Hercegovics, Edward Mandac, Frederick Mandac; and sister, Ann Kaczmarek.

Born and raised in Joliet. William attended St. Mary Nativity (Croation). Joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942, is an Iwo Jima Survivor. Discharged in 1947 as 100% disabled from wounds received on Iwo Jima. Worked for the Civil Service at the Joliet Arsenal (APSA) for 17 years. Was active in church, St. Judes in Marycrest and the community. Helped establish the Marycrest Little League, was a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree). In 1966 he moved to Sierra Vista, AZ where he retired. In 1976 moved to Escondido, CA.

From where services will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 9:30 AM to St. Mary Nativity Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 AM. Inurnment with Full Military Honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8.
