William J. Laken
Age 65. At rest Thursday the 8th of February, 2007 at Provena St. Joseph Medical center. Survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Lois (nee Legan) Laken. Loving father of Timothy Laken, Scott Laken, Steven Laken, and Michael (Tara) Laken. Grandchildren, Bryson and Jenna Laken. Mother, Nona (Carlson) Laken. Three brothers, Thomas (Debra) Laken, Bob Laken, and Donald (Pam) Laken. Also survived by sister-in-law Rita (nee Legan) (late Ronald) Fordonski. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceded by his father, Joseph Laken (1998); and lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Ronald Fordonksi (2005). William ""Bill"" or ""Lake,"" as he was known, was born in Joliet. A graduate of Joliet Township High School in 1959, Lewis University (Bachelor Degree) in 1963 and the University of Illinois (Master Degree) in 1967. Bill began his teaching career at Gower School in Hindsdale. He later taught at Joliet West High School and then finished his career at the Troy School District. There he spent over 30 years of dedicated service as a guidance counselor and principal. He retired in 1999. Bill was an avid fisherman, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, basketball official for 46 years, and a loving friend to those he encountered. He was a devout husband, father and grandfather.
