William R. ""Embo"" Flaynik, age 90, died peacefully with dignity, the same way he lived his life, on January 29, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill is survived byhis loving wife of 48 years Gertrude (nee Brokema) and children Theresa A. McGuire and Dennis (Betty) Zaletel, one sister Loretta Flaynik, grandchildren Mike (Erin) Testa, Mark (Kirsten) Testa, Sara (Ryan) Dixon, Chris (Joe) Bajner, Carrie Zaletel and John Zaletel, and 12 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Mary N. (nee Stanfel) Flaynik, 2 brothers Elmer (late Amanda) and Donald Flaynik, 2 sisters Gizelle Chernugel and Delores Flaynik, and also by his great-grandson Beylen Mark Testa .
""Papa"" was a WW II US Army veteran and an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many hours at the Des Plaines Valley Conservation Area hunting and working the concession stand and fishing from Lake Michigan to Canada. He was a kind, caring man who enjoyed his acquired family as well as traveling through the states and Canada with his beloved ""Gert"" at the wheel. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by those who were fortunate enough to share his life. His family would like to express their gratitude to Geri Egizio for her many months of compassionate care and kindness.
A Celebration of Bill"s Life will take place on Friday, February 4, 2011 with prayers at the funeral home at 11:30 AM, then in procession to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Crest Hill, for a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Interment with military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be FRIDAY from 10 AM until prayers
