William J. Dragovan, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 with his loving family by his side.
William is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lucille (nee Brulc) Dragovan; children, Mark of Pasadena, CA, Wileen of Hermosa Beach, CA and Bill of Joliet, IL; one sister, Josephine (the late William) Krohn, brother-in-law, Harry (the late Berandine) Micci. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Mary (nee Wolf) Dragovan; brother, Richard Dragovan; sisters, Ann Dragovan and Bernadine Micci.
William was a proud United States Marine and was in the 4th Division 24th Regiment during World War II, Pacific Duration. He was a founding member of the American Legion Post 1080. After the war he went to Loras College and was a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma. He went on to work as an office manager at Texaco in Chicago. William gave up his manager position to pursue higher education, going on to earn a Master's Degree at Northern Illinois University and an Ed. D from National Louis University College of Education. He taught at Larraway, Joliet Junior College, Northern Illinois University, Governors State University and was an assistant principal at West View Junior High School for 21 years. William was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet, a lifetime KSKJ Member and a Holy Name Society Member. He was also a volunteer election judge for Will County for many years. William was the family caretaker, an avid gardener, Green Bay Packer fan and loved following politics and the economy. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in the Cardiac and Pulmonary unit.
In lieu of flower donations in William's name to the St. Joseph Church Museum would be appreciated.
The family invites relatives and friends to gather at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet on Saturday August 30, 2014 for a memorial visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Per William's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no funeral home visitation or services.
