Wheatley McGowan

Age 78, of Joliet, IL passed away surrounded by his family at Loyola Medical Center on May 22,2007. Wheatley had a B.A. in Business and retired from Mobil Oil Corporation where he worked for 14 years at the Joliet Refinery as a maintenance planner and 10 years at the chemical plant in Saudi Arabia. Wheatley was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, mentor, teacher, hard worker, and friend, but most of all, a strong man of God.

Wheatley is survived by his eight children, Barbara McGowan Carter, Lorecia McGowan, Patrice McGowan, Sharon (Julius) Ceaser, David (Nancy) McGowan, Cynthia (David) Galvin, Valerie McGowan, Mark (Kelly) McGowan; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irma (Jack) Waters.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Maurine McGowan; father and mother, John and Katie McGowan; sisters, Ethel (Richard) Chandler, Ruby McGowan and Lorraine (William) Major; and brothers, Carey (Clancy) McGowan, Otis (Viola) McGowan, Hugh (Mildred) McGowan, Dewit McGowan, and Henry (Naomi) McGowan.

From where procession will begin on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 9:30 AM to Faith Bible Church, 1600 E. Schuster St., Joliet, IL 60435, for a service officiated by Pastors Jay Fernlund and Nolan McCants at 10 AM. Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, May 25, 2007 from 3 to 8 PM.
