Wendell J. Hucek age 88, of Joliet, at rest with his loving family by his side on Sunday, August 27, 2017.
Wendell is survived by his sons, Kurt (Patty), Jeffrey (Karen) and Douglas (Beth) Hucek; eight grandchildren, Annie Allgood, Kurt (Jennifer), Marc (Marissa) Hucek, Kristin (Michael) Tomasino, Justin and Brianne Hucek, Adam (Megan) Hucek and Nolan Hucek; great-grandchildren, Logan and Giana Allgood; Natalie, Hayden and Charlotte Hucek, Hunter Hucek, Luca Tomasino; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (the late Chuck) Freeman and Alice (the late Art) Haws; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara L. (nee Smith); son, Steven Hucek; parents, Vendelin and Katarina (nee Kovalik) Furdek-Hucek; sisters, Mary Furdek, Betty (Earl) Baxter and one in infancy; brothers, Joseph (Mildred), Andrew (Ruth), Martin (Angela), John (Agnes) and Al (Dorothy) Furdek .
Wendell was born in Joliet, IL and a lifelong resident. He was a 1948 graduate of the Illinois School for the Deaf, Jacksonville, IL. He retired from Caterpillar after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Machinist’s Local #852. He was a volunteer member for the Joliet Deaf Club for over 50 years, as well as a Senior Deaf Club member. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed bowling, going to the horse races and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

In lieu of flowers, Masses in honor of Wendell to be said at the Cathedral of St. Raymond or donations to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
A celebration of Wendell’s life will begin on Thursday, August 31, 2017 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 at Tezak Funeral Home (1211 Plainfield Road – Joliet) followed by a prayer service in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Joliet.
