Virgil Wayne Skoien
Age 82 of Joliet, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Born May 24, 1939 in Joliet, Wayne was a son of Henry and Esther (Rutter) Skoien. He was raised and educated in Joliet and when of age, enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army. Wayne was active duty and in the Army Reserves for over twenty years, and in that time earned a purple heart for his bravery during the conflict in Vietnam. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and going deer hunting. Wayne’s favorite times were always spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 42 years: Jean; children: Jon, Jennifer and James Skoien and Christine (Rick) Puttman; grandchildren: Matthew and Savannah Skoien and Christopher and Jeffrey Puttman; siblings: Thomas (Lilli) Skoien and Gladys (the late Ralph) Schmidt; sisters-in-law: Karen Skoien and Deborah (Don) Hoffman; brother-in-law: Arthur (Michelle) Albeiz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Esther (Rutter) Skoien; brother: Robert Skoien; step-father: Daniel O. Skoien and mother and father-in-law: Marilyn and Bruno Albeiz.
Per Wayne’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet.
A private interment will be held at a later date and Wayne will be laid to rest with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Wayne’s memory to the family for their distribution.
