Survived by his wife, Lillian (nee Givin) Kelso, children Carol Kelso, Diane (Robert) Graham, Gary Kelso, Patrick Kelso, Kathleen (Vince) Corsello, and Jean (Ernest) Sandlin, 9 grandchildren Sean (Christine) Kelso, Joseph (Teresa) Kelso, Billy Kelso, Jennifer (Jason) Hodkowski, Brittany Graham, Brandon Corsello, Trevor Corsello, Evan Sandlin, and Erin Sandlin and 2 great-grandchildren, Maura Kelso and Emma Hodkowski, brother and sister Quentin (late Dorothy) Kelso, Betty Lou (Edward) Kricziewicz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded by a son Thomas Kelso, parents John R. and Marguerite (nee OA�??Brien) Kelso, and 3 brothers and sisters June (late Benjamin) Bentley, Shirley (late Joseph) Obiala, and Donald (late Jean) Kelso.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, he served in the South Pacific. He was a 25 year member of the Chicago Fire Department, reaching the rank of Lieutenant prior to his retirement in 1974.

Funeral services for Vernon T. Kelso will be held on Friday May 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church, 10731 W 131st Street, Orlan Park, IL 60462. Interment to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
