Thomas R. Lebed

Age 87 of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

Born August 2, 1935 in Chicago, Thomas was a son of Fred and Francis (Smola) Lebed. He was raised and educated in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago and after graduating high school would go on to marry his high school sweetheart, Ms. Alice Cholewa. Together they made a home and raised their family.

Thomas was a man of values who believed in hard work and his country. He proudly served in the United States Army and after being honorably discharged, joined the teamsters union and worked for the City of Chicago Sanitation Department until retirement. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and in his free time enjoyed doing cross word puzzles and going to the casino. Even more so, Thomas was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks fan. If a game was on, you better not interrupt. His most treasured times were always spent with his family. They were his world and he was theirs. Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children: David (Cookie) Lebed, Robert Lebed, Cathy (Michael) Rukujzo and Sandy Lebed; grandchildren: Beth, Michael, Danielle, Marjorie, Danny, Nora, Kate, Luke, Jon and Christina; great-grandson: Beckett, and brother: Robert (the late Gloria) Lebed, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years: Alice who passed in 2010; parents: Fred and Francis; daughter: Susan Lebed, and infant grandson: Joey.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Thomas’ life will continue on Friday, June 30, 2023 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow and Thomas will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
