Thomas Joseph Bertino, age 80, lifelong resident of Joliet passed away peacefully at The Joliet Community Hospice Home on April 22, 2011. Beloved husband of 61years to Beverly (nee Elenwood). Beloved father of Daniel T. (Luann), David G. (Brenda) and Vicki (Tom) Lennon. Proud Grandfather of Brian (Jessica), Matthew, Nicholas, Nathan Bertino, Breanna & Thomas, Jr Lennon. Great Grandfather of Stephanie & Zachary, Danyelle, Colin Bertino. Brother to Raymond (Dolores), Lawrence (Ruth) Bertino, Maryann (James) Crater. Brother in law to Ardis (Ernie) Bankroff. Uncle and friend to numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents Peter & Octavia (Vernezzi) Bertino, three brothers: George (late Lee), Bob (late Ann) & Joe (Geri) Bertino; two sisters: Edith (Bob) Irwin and Betty (late Lavern) Kren. Tom retired from Northwestern Mutual Life after 30 years. He received numerous awards for his service: Man of the Year (1972), Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and served as President of Joliet Life Underwriters Association. Previous to NML he was a Standard Oil Company dealer and member of the Standard Oil Regional Advisory Board for many years. He was the President and Treasurer of the Joliet Rotary Club, a member of the Joliet Elks and Joliet Regional Chamber of Commerce. He was involved in local area boy's baseball programs, serving as President of Joliet Boys Baseball, St Joe's Baseball Association, American Amateur Baseball Congress of IL, National Amateur Baseball Federation, and The Will Co. Old Timers Baseball Association. He is enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY for his years of dedication to youth sports. In his spare time Tom enjoyed bowling, golf and traveling with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Will County Old Timers Baseball Association or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Tom's Life will begin on Friday April 29, 2011 at 10 am with services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL. Visitation will be Thursday April 28, 2011 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm.
