Thaddeus J. Hylek

November 13, 1923 — October 5, 2022

Thaddeus J. Hylek, 98,  passed away early Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. His family was the love of his life. Life-long resident of the Joliet/Lockport area, Ted was a founding member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lockport. He enjoyed his weekly breakfasts at Cherry Hill Cafe with fellow parishioners. He was also an active  member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4400. He was proud of his Polish Heritage, and telling us of the difficulties growing up during the Great Depression. In his teenage years he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). He was the last survivor of his Joliet neighborhood. Ted had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around. He was a veteran of WWII and was very proud of his service to the United State Army. Ted also spent 38 years with the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1987. He had a passion for trains both as a traveler and historian. He was also a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox.

Ted was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Roslyn (Nedelsky) Hylek, his parents, Anna and Joseph Hylek, his brothers Stanley (Antonia) and Peter Hylek, and a sister Catherine (Edwin) Juban.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Hylek, Debbie (Jack Warner) Hylek, Jeffrey (Cindy) Hylek, Christine (Matthew) Forneris, and Lisa (Richard) Kuban. Ted also was blessed with eight grandchildren, Stephanie Hylek, Kristin (Gavin) Duba, Michael (Emily) Hylek, Amanda and Renee Forneris, Alex, Mia and Nicholas Kuban. He also was graced with three great grandchildren, Samuel and Quinn Duba, and Audrey Hylek. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and many loving family and friends.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Silver Cross Hospital for the compassionate care  throughout the years. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to St. John Vianney Church or The Knights of Columbus Joliet Council #4400.

Funeral Services for Ted Hylek will be held Monday October 10th at 9:15am from Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet at 9:15am to St. John Vianney Church, Lockport for 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial. Internment S.S. Chris and Methodius Cemetery, Joliet. Visitation Sunday Oct. 9, 2022 4-8pm. Pisut Funeral Services will handle the arrangements. 815-722-0998.
