Suzette R. (McClain) Nixon

Suzette R. Nixon, 57, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 27, 2023 in Joliet,IL

Suzette was born on July 26, 1966 in Joliet, IL as the 5th of 8 children. She went home to eternal peace and rest, on July 27, 2023.

While she held many titles her most important role was playing mother to her 3 children Eunique, Tony and Lewis. She instilled strength into her children throughout their upbringing and she remained the shoulder for them to lean on. She was never afraid to teach them tough lessons and let them learn some on their own, preparing them for days such as these. Suzette was a Will County employee for 30 years. During her career, she worked as a 911 dispatcher. She was never afraid to live up to a challenge and try new things. Which is why, at the age of 44, she decided to move into a new role as a Correctional Officer, where she would go on to retire from in 2022.  Suzette enjoyed traveling, building an impeccable shoe collection, and caring for her grandchildren.

Suzette was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Jean McClain; maternal grandparents Mary and Willie Melvin and paternal grandparents Paralee and Bennie McClain.

Suzette is survived by her father Curtis (Ivory) McClain; children Eunique Gill, Tony Gill and Lewis (Bud) Nixon; grandchildren Layla Flemings, Kalel Davis, Kara Davis and Na'yr Jackson;
siblings Sandra (David) Jones, Stanley McClain, Steven (Rebecca) McClain, Sherri (Willie) Drake, Maria McClain, Dwayne McClain, Celeste Handy and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd,Joliet,Il from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with chapel services beginning at 11:00 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Elmhurst Cemetery Chapel, 1212 E Washington St, Joliet, IL.
