Early Monday morning, on November 7th, 2022, Susan D. Hucul suddenly passed away at the age of sixty-six. Susan was an unwaveringly strong and gentle mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an accomplished nurse, selflessly devoting herself to healthcare for over 30 years. She graduated from Joliet Junior College earning an associate’s in nursing. Her dedication and talent for care extended beyond her career, as she was able to provide lifesaving CPR while at Inwood’s Recreational Pool. She was recognized with a Citizens Life Saving Award from the Joliet Fire Department as well as the park district for her efforts. She loved to stay active. Any morning she wasn’t at Silver Cross was spent at her water aerobics class, she was a passionate gardener, and walked local trails with her dog children, Science and Troy (as well as her dog grandchildren Grace and Griffin). She was an avid Costco and Goodwill customer, always able to find a deal, and always leaving with at least two unplanned gifts for those she loved for no reason other than she was thinking of them.
She was selfless and stoic, often carrying the burdens of her friends and family with a smile and her signature soft, reassuring voice. She never asked for anything in return, happy to repay a raindrop of love with an ocean. Grandma Sue loved traveling, exploring water parks, and partying in the hot tub with the lights of her life, grandsons Noah and Henry Fish.
She is survived by her children: Carly (Dwight) Fish, Caitlin (Josh) Hucul, and Maxwell Hucul; her grandchildren: Noah Fish and Henry Fish; her cousins: Marilyn Bisching, Margo Roth, and Patricia Joe Hingst; and her lifelong friends: Pamela Gaffney and Mary Rundle.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry J. and Gladys Brinskelle; mother Hazel Stewart; ex-husband: Edward Hucul, and cousin: Darlene McNichols.
Per Susan’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
