Salvatore DeAngelis

Salvatore DeAngelis, age 85, entered eternal life on Thursday, January 15, 2015 surrounded by his family.

Sal is survived by his beloved fiancAC.e, Lowelyn "Cissy" Leasure; loving children, Barry (Lynne) of Wilmington and Scott DeAngelis of CO; cherished grandchildren, Jessica of Wilmington and Sophia and Dario DeAngelis of CO, Carey and Nikki of OK; four great-grandchildren; dear brother, Anthony (Anita) DeAngelis of Plainfield; dear sister, Rose (the late Dale) Delsasso of Estero, FL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Maria (nee Alberico) DeAngelis; son, Brian DeAngelis; brother, Gene DeAngelis; and sister, Florene Kovalcik.

Sal was a laborer in Local #75 for over 30 years, and worked for the city of Crest Hill for over 10 years in the Public Works Department. He served in Korea as a Gunnery Sgt. In the Army. Sal was wounded while in service but returned to active duty shortly thereafter. He was honorably discharged and received 3 bronze medals. Sal was a lifetime member of the VFW Cantigny Post #367. He was a founding member of the Chaney Club and was a member of its 1941 recreational baseball league championship team. He loved bocce ball, basketball, football, and was an avid fan of the Bears and Bulls, whose games he rarely missed. Sal was loved by many and will be truly missed.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice for the wonderful care provided in the past few weeks.

A Celebration of Sal's life will begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Anne Catholic Church in Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435.
