Ross Alan Neitzel, age 82 of Elwood, IL, born July 15, 1943 in Santa Maria Ca. passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Lightways Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Hayducak) Neitzel of Elwood, IL.; and his son, Todd Neitzel of Greers Ferry, Ark. He was married to Carol for 41 years.
Alan was the son of Darlene (McCumsey) Neitzel and Ross Neitzel of Streator, IL.,; brother to Ron Neitzel (deceased) and Lura Gilkerson also deceased, of Streator. He was in the graduating class of 1961 at Streator High School. Al was employed by Thatchers Glass Co. in Streator, then joined Commonwealth Edison as a Meter Reader in 1967. In 1971 he began work in Sub Station Construction, and was a crew leader with ComEd, until his retirement.
Alan enjoyed fishing at the South Wilmington Fireman’s Club, as well as relaxing by the campfire. He was an avid bowler and horseshoe player who enjoyed league play and recreational, teaching his son the sports. He also enjoyed going to Joliet Memorial Stadium when UMARA raced there, as well as going to Grundy Co. Speedway for stock car racing. He loved to be in his yard, keeping it like a golf course, or polishing on his vehicles. RIP Dad.
The family invites relatives and friends to gather at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of prayers to be held in the cemetery chapel at 1:15 p.m. Interment will follow. Cremation rites have been accorded.
