Roger Lee McDaniel of Crest Hill, Illinois
Born 12/27/1944 in Grafton, West Virginia. Departed this life on 12/22/2022 at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale, Illinois where he has been for the past 17 months due to several illnesses complicated by diabetes.


Married to Barb for 41 wonderful years. Barb and Roger have one son, Ryan (Melanie) and granddaughter Rylynn; daughter Michelle and son Mark; granddaughters Jessica and Cari; grandsons Jordan and Isaiah; and great-granddaughter Amelia.


Preceded in death by his mother Virginia and father Lloyd, his brother, Larry and sister, Shirley.
Surviving him are his sister Deeta of Kentucky and brother Bob of Georgia. Several nieces and nephews.


He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 32 years retiring in 1999. After retirement, he worked at Mistwood Golf Club. Roger knew somebody everywhere he went. He was a member of Joliet Moose 300 and the VFW. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.


He was a member of the Joliet Bowling Association Board for 20 years holding offices of director, vice-president and president. Elected to Joliet Area Hall of Fame in 2018. He was on the Illinois State Bowling Association for numerous years . He enjoyed being a member of these associations immensely . He loved bowling and was a youth coach for 32 years at Town and Country Lanes.


He was an assistant coach for high school bowling for Plainfield Central and Lockport. Both schools making state finals several years and Lockport won it in 2013. He was so proud he was able to be a part of that. He loved coaching the high school boys. He was so excited when he would be out and a former bowler he coached would recognize him and stop what they were doing to speak to him. Everybody loved coach Roger. He was Secretary of Monday night men’s classic bowling league for quite a few years and only deciding to give it up during COVID in 2020.


For Ryan’s 16th birthday, Roger and Ryan went golfing even though neither one had golfed previously. They went to Mistwood and they were both hooked. Of course Roger knew several people there and when he came home that day, he said he was going to work at Mistwood . He loved it and worked there until his illness . He loved to get out and golf with his buddies, Rudy, Donnie, Bob and Steve. He especially enjoyed golfing with Ryan. He would not show it but when Ryan asked if he wanted to golf in an outing with him or just for fun, he was ecstatic. He enjoyed those times.


He loved to fish and always kept several poles in the back of his truck. He even showed a few of the young workers at Mistwood the enjoyment of fishing. He and Barb enjoyed their days fishing and relaxing at south Wilmington firemen’s club. They would pack a lunch and leave early and stay as long as the fish were biting.
He loved old cars and oldies music and Clint Eastwood movies. He was a collector of model cars, nascar cars, hot wheels, trucks, and just about anything. He enjoyed watching NASCAR especially when Rusty Wallace was a driver. He enjoyed watching the Cubs even when they were losing.


In lieu of flowers donations in care of Barb for educational fund for Rylynn would be appreciated. He adored her and missed being with her this last year.

A celebration of Roger’s life will begin on Thursday, December 29, 2022 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
