Roberta “Bert” M. Kapinus (Brocker), 86, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones. Roberta was born on September 4, 1936 in Joliet, IL. She retired from Joliet School District 86 after many years of service.
Roberta enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and playing cards with her friends. Every Christmas, she spent hours in the kitchen making potica. Her grandchildren and great grandchild brought her more joy than anything else. She loved sewing Halloween costumes and dresses for them, while passing on her love for crafting.
Roberta was preceded in death by parents: Thora and August Brocker, and brother: Bud.
She is survived by her beloved husband: Robert "Bob" Kapinus of 64 years; sisters: Donna Jean Hudak and Carolyn Sula; her three children: Jeff (Charmaine "Cha") Kapinus, Terry (Linda) Kapinus, and Pam (Dan) Russ; five grandchildren: Shannon (Joseph) Bobbe, Christine McDonnell (George Maczura), Elizabeth (Phil) Emph, Zachary Spesia, and Abbey Spesia; eight great-grandchildren; her lifelong friends: Jean Rohder and Dorothy “Dee” Bertram, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet.
A celebration of Roberta’s life will continue on Thursday, September 29, 2022 with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The funeral will then drive in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N Broadway Street in Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow and Roberta will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Roberta’s name to Lightways Hospice Care in Joliet.
