Robert John Kolenc, aged 88, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Joliet, IL. He was a dedicated veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman (HM2) from 1956-1966, earning an honorable discharge. Following his service, Robert pursued a career as a microbiologist at St. Joseph Hospital, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1997.
Robert was a devout member of St. Anne Catholic Church and an esteemed graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1953, and Lewis University, Class of 1967. He was an active participant in community organizations, holding memberships with the AARP and American Legion Post #1080.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Margaret F. Kolenc (nee Smith), his infant daughter Roberta, his parents, John and Agnes Kolenc, who immigrated from Slovenia, and his sister Nancy Lou Belom (nee Kolenc).
Robert will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his devoted children: Kathleen (Michael) Albertino, Lori (Roberto) Dela Fuente, and John Kolenc. He was a proud grandfather to Jessica (Roberto) Salinas, Courtney (Allen Chavez) Purciarello, Sarah Albertino, Nicolette Kolenc, Grace Dela Fuente, Andrew Albertino and Christian Kolenc. Additionally, he leaves behind three step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, Elijah Salinas, and nephews Raymond and Richard Belom.
Robert John Kolenc will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his profession, his faith, and most importantly, his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire those who knew him.
Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Robert’s life will continue on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with closing prayers beginning at 9:20 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The funeral will then drive in procession to St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 1800 Dearborn St., Crest Hill,IL for a Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow military honors will be held at 12:30 pm at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 w. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL
