Robert J. Jaskowiak, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 21, 2018 after a 19 year battle with cancer.
Robert is survived by his beloved of 54 years Mary Jean Jaskowiak (nee Weeditz); children, Stephen (Marian) Jaskowiak, Joel (Crystal Smith, Jayde O’Halloran) Jaskowiak; grandchildren, Matthew and Claire Jaskowiak; sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Pat Jaskowiak; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Catherine Jaskowiak; brother, Edward (the late Betty), Chester (the late Josephine), Andrew, and Gerald Jaskowiak; and sister, Mary Louise (the late Oliver) Evans.
Robert was born and raised in Joliet, IL and was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He served his country honorably in the Army 101st Airborne. After being honorably discharged, he spent 35 years working for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. Robert enjoyed fishing, bowling, and gambling on the boat. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 1080. Robert loved to laugh and always knew how to have a good time. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Joliet Area Community Hospice for the care and respect that they showed for Robert.
A celebration of Robert’s life will begin on Thursday, December 27, 2018 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. then driving in procession to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Crest Hill. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
