Robert A. Gatons Sr

September 27, 1923 — June 11, 2015

Age, 91, entered eternal life on Thursday, June 11, 2015 with his loving family by his side.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Betty (nee Anderson); loving children, Barbara J. (John) Smith, Beverly J. (Paul) Woelfer, and Bradley D. Gatons; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter; dear sister, Joan (the late Leonard) Osmus of Owensboro, KY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by his son, Robert Gatons, Jr.; parents, Raymond and Ella (nee Steinbach) Gatons; brother, Paul Gatons;

Bob was employed for 30 years at the Illinois Bell Phone Company. He served with the fighter control squadron 14th Army Air Corp Flying Tigers in China during WWII. He was an avid fisherman, talented woodworker, creative gardener, certified locksmith, and most of all a loving family man.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or Peace Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to doctors, nurses, and staff at Symphony of Joliet and Presence St. Joseph Medical Center and especially Dr. Hari Gadde.

A Celebration of Robert's life will begin on Saturday, June 20, 2015 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service to be held at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 24024 W. Main St., Plainfield, IL 60544. Interment of cremated remains will take place on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Family and friends to meet at Tezak Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. then drive in procession to cemetery.
