Robert "Gus" Gaston

April 30, 1936 — September 20, 2015

Robert “Gus” Gaston, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 20, 2015 after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer.

Robert is survived by his life partner, Patricia Hoffman; former wife, Bonnie Gaston; children, Robert A. (Kerrie) Gaston, Sandra (David) Kappes; grandchildren, Richard (Gina) Tomeyer, Jackie Tomeyer and Ken Kappes; great-grandchildren, Chris and Savanna Tomeyer; stepchildren, Tracy (Robert) Sarsfield and George (Jodi) Hoffman; step-grandchildren, Kaity and Jacob Sarsfield and Henry Hoffman.

Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Gaston; and Sister, Genevieve Porrevecchio.

Gus was a retired tree trimmer with the city of Chicago and spent many summers with Department of Forestry at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

Gus, as he was affectionately known, loved meeting people and exploring new adventures. One of his favorite trips was to Alaska with family and friends. He was also a seven seasons snow bird to Florida. Gus was an avid bird watcher and belonged to the Audubon Society. He also belonged to WRC Recreation Club where he spent a lot of time fishing, camping and sharing funny stories with everyone he met. Gus will be truly missed around the campfires to come.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4-8 p.m. Per Robert’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded.
