Robert "Bob" T. Stromberg, born December 15, 1937, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023, at Silver Cross Hospital due to complications following a massive stroke.
Bob was the only child born to Robert and Viola Stromberg.
He was married for sixty-four incredible years to the love of his life, Rose Mary (Hubert) Stromberg. Together, they created a legacy of love with solid family values, tough love, catholic faith, and a hard work ethic. They passed these values and lessons to their children and grandchildren.
Bob grew up on Joliet's east side, where he enjoyed working on and racing cars. He worked for Commonwealth Edison retiring after thirty-eight years. He was a long-time active member of S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church, volunteered at Silver Cross Hospital, was involved in local baseball organizations, coaching for Belmont Little League and the Com-Ed softball team. Bob enjoyed many activities, including Friday night bowling, playing cards, golfing, camping and sitting around the campfire with friends at South Wilmington Sportsmen's Club. He was always tinkering in his garage, where many friends stopped to gather for great conversation. Some of his best times were spent at their lake house, fishing and cruising on the pontoon boat with his family. However, his greatest joy was being a supporter and cheerleader to his grandchildren. Bob was a friend to many, loved by all, and will be dearly missed. Let us remember him fondly, cherishing the beautiful memories he has left behind.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Viola Stromberg. Surviving is his wife, Rose Mary (Hubert) Stromberg; Children, Debbie (Bill) Purvis, Michael (Janet) Stromberg, Diane (Chuck) Garland, Denise (Frank) Kostelz. Grandchildren: Kyle (Stephanie) Purvis, Sarah (Nate) Kothe, Kate (Keenan) Lindley, Mark (Erin) Stromberg, Brian (Katy) Garland, Amy (Rich) Laskowski, Ben (Morgan) Garland, Tim (Breanna) Garland, Kelley (Jim) Bruce, John Kostelz, and Rachel Kostelz. Also, sixteen great-grandchildren: Billy, Samara, Weston, Harlow, George, Logan, Grace, Robert, Cole, Dylan, Brayden, MaKenzie, Harper, Sadie, Remy, and Casey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Bob's name to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation, a cause that was very dear to Bob's heart, or Lightways Hospice. The family expresses sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care received by the second-floor ICU nurses at Silver Cross Hospital. We are so blessed and thankful for our army of friends and family that sent so much love, and support through texts, social media, and phone calls that helped us through our hardest hours.
