Richard J. Shaw

Richard J. Shaw "Dick the Barber," age 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, June 13th, 2015. He was born on April 16th, 1943 in Joliet, IL to James and Mary (Delrose) Shaw. He married his life-long sweetheart Dyann (Mondrella) Shaw on February 2nd, 1963.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Dyann; his children, Brett (Leanne) Shaw, Dana (Darin) DeBenedetti, Jennifer (Rick) Hakey and Jayme Shaw; his grandchildren, Breanne, Ryan and Genevieve Shaw; Antoinette, Drake, Victoria, Luke and Anastacia DeBenedetti; and Anthony, Dylan, Ty and Luccia Hakey; his sister Donna (the late Larry) Lucas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick was a barber at Shaw's Ingalls Park Barber Shop for 53 years. He enjoyed all the people he met and friendships he built with his loyal customers throughout the years. Dick was a dedicated father, coaching numerous softball and baseball teams or cheering on his children from the stands. He carried on that dedication to his twelve talented grandchildren as he watched with pride from the stands of their numerous sports and activities.

In his spare time, Dick enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Michigan, golfing, fishing and watching his beloved White Sox. He was also an entertaining musician and storyteller, often writing his own songs to play on the organ and guitar.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary (Delrose) Shaw; brother-in-law, Larry Lucas; maternal grandparents, Blaise and Antoinette Delrose; and paternal grandparents, James and Anna Shaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Richard's life will begin on Friday, June 19th, 2015 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Per Richard's wishes cremation rite will be accorded following Mass. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4-8 p.m.
