Richard Michael McGrath, age 87, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Richard was born in Joliet, IL on December 10, 1929 to Walter J. and Marie (Bolin) McGrath. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School and Joliet Junior College. Richard was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 38 years and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
Richard enjoyed golfing and following his favorite sports team, the Chicago White Sox. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers Club, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #28 of Grand Haven, MI.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie; brother, Raymond McGrath; and granddaughter, Allyson McGrath.
Survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy J. McGrath (nee Clark); children, Richard (Lynne), Karen, Stephen (Mary Kay), Patrick (Donna) McGrath and Lisa (Kevin) McKanna; grandchildren, Natalie, Mary Grace, Margaret (Maggie), Sean, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Ainsley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A celebration of Richard’s life will begin on Friday, March 10, 2017 with a visitation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (18 Woodlawn Avenue - Joliet, IL 60435) from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Joliet.
There will be no funeral home visitation or service.
