Richard C. Horvath
“Dick”
Age 79 of Lockport, passed away peacefully & quietly on Friday, July 29, 2022 while surrounded by his entire family at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Dick is survived by his wife: Patricia (Burla) of 54 years; his son: Rich and wife Sharon (Sestak), and his two grandchildren: Hannah and Cole; his son: Craig; his daughter: Shannon (Jakovich) and husband Joe, and granddaughter: Maggie, and three other siblings: Jerry (Janet Harms), Sue (Dave Hermann) and Joanne (Larry Rositch), as well as in-laws: Joyce (Burla) & Wayne Morris, Debbie (Jordan) & Bernie Burla, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his brother: Joey (Mariann Stash) and by his parents: Anna (Podlesny) and Joseph.
Dick was born in Joliet and grew up living above a family owned tavern on the corner of Cass and Briggs.
After attending St. Bernard’s Grade School & Joliet Catholic High and serving in the Army, Dick got married in 1968 to a Coal City farm girl named Patti. Their first house was just down the road on Cass Street from where he grew up, but eventually laid down permanent roots in Lockport.
Dick worked in the housing industry as a ceramic tile setter for Garrett Ceramic Tile, eventually owning and running the business with his wife Patti and working with his son Rich. Chances are, you know someone who has ceramic tile in their house that was installed by Dick.
To say that Dick was an active participant in his children’s lives is a vast understatement. Dick coached endless sports teams for his children throughout their childhood. Dick donated countless hours of his time to his children’s pursuits, both in and out of school. Never was a game, dance recital or school event missed with his kids, and with his grandkids. When his children needed help, whether asked for or not, Dick was there, always.
