Richard G. Colombo, age 80, of Crest Hill, at rest Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Joliet Hospice Home. Survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret (nee Brown), sons Richard R. (Mary Olson) and Michael J. (Karen), grandchildren Lynn and Daun Colombo, sister Anne (late Raymond) Hendrix, his brother Fred (late Loma) Colombo, and his brother-in-law Doug (Rosalinda) Busch. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded by his parents, Maria (nee Serra) and Alfanso Colombo, brother Frank (late Nina), and his sisters Louise (late Edward) Libersher, and Rose (late Francis) Tibble. Active in his community, Richard was a member of the Richland Grade School Board for 3 years, 4th Ward Alderman for the City of Crest Hill for 12 years, and a member of the Will County Board and Will County Forest Preserve Commission for 8 years. Professionally, Richard was the owner of Colombo Concrete Construction Company, and was a 45 year member of the Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties, their secretary/treasurer for 20 years, and their Member of the Year in 1999. The award was thereafter named in his honor. He was also Chairman of the Cement Masons Fox Valley Vicinity Welfare, Pension, and Apprentice Fund for 43 years, 45 year member of Cement Masons Local 11, Area 161, and in charge of Apprentice Training, Iron Workers Local 444 Apprentice Committee for 15 years and an honorary member of the Pension Board. He was also a member of the Lake County Annuity Fund and the Mid America Pension Plan and Mid America S.M.A since 1987. Richard installed the concrete bed for the Joliet River Walk mosaic in downtown Joliet. Also, Richard held a private pilot"s license, was a 33 year member of the Bass & Gill Club in Plainfield, a member of Waterfowl USA and Delta Waterfowl, as well as a 40 year member of Ducks Unlimited. He was barber shop singer with membership in the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., he played piano in various bands and was known as ""The Count"". Also, he was a member of the American Italian Cultural Society. Richard loved to fish and hunt ducks and geese. He took moose, deer and bear in Canada. He enjoyed family trips to the cottage in Michigan every summer weekend. Those wishing to leave a lasting memorial in Richard"s name may make a contribution to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Richard"s life will be held on Friday with a memorial service in the chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will follow immediately in the mausoleum. Visitation and video tribute will be Thursday from 4- 8 PM.
