Richard L. Campbell Sr. "Soupy", age 75, passed away suddenly Saturday November 12, 2011 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Lou (nee Carver) Campbell; 6 children, Richard L. (fiancee Anita Bosse) Campbell Jr., Cathy L. (Robert) Downey, Kimberly J. Campbell, Sue E. (Daniel) Menegon, Tracy L. (late Brian) Johnson, Lori L. Campbell; 7 grandchildren, John, Kelsey, Jacob, Joshua, Erin, Amy, and Matthew; a brother, James (Beth) Campbell, and a sister, Linda (Jerry) Rogers, and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (John) O'Dougherty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. and Helen L. (nee Watson) Campbell; 2 brothers, Charles (Peggy) Campbell, Robert (Fern) Campbell.
Richard was born in Oil City, PA, and attended Rocky Grove High School. He was an athlete in school and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Richard moved with his family from Michigan to the Joliet area in 1969, and worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. for the next 25 years. He was also self-employed in local building maintenance. Richard lovingly supported his grandchildren in all of their activities. Richard was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association in his name would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Richard's life begin on Wednesday November 16, 2011 where Richard will lie-in-state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at Grace United Methodist Church in Joliet at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Hickok officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life (1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL).
