Rebecca A. (Ramirez) Hernandez

Rebecca A. Hernandez (nee Ramirez), age 72, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 with her loving family by her side.

Rebecca is survived by her dear brothers and sisters, Juanita, Jimmy, Elias and Esther; six loving children, Sharon, Jesse Jr, Christopher, Kenneth, Mary, and Alexander; favorite daughter-in-law, Shawna; ten cherished grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher Jr, Rebeka, Kristen, Lyssette, Nicholas, Mia, Jonathan, Matthew, and Isabella; and cherished great grandchild, Emma.

Preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Ruth Ramirez; and siblings, Matthew, Paulie, David, Peter, Manuel, Lorenzo, Jovita, Rosie, and Fredrico.

Rebecca was born in Chicago, IL and was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. She devoted much of her time and energy to helping others. She often participated in walks for charitable organizations in the Chicagoland area. She made herself available to friends and family members in need. Rebecca cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren, often watching and caring for them several days a week. She was the perfect mother and grandmother. Rebecca worked for many years as a security guard and cleaning personnel. She was an avid collector of cookie jars and many other fun items, attending yard sales and flea markets in hopes of finding different sorts of hidden treasures to add to her collections. Rebecca enjoyed traveling, one of her favorite destinations being Las Vegas. She was also not opposed to an occasional trip to the riverboat to try her luck. Rebecca was a sports fan, cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears through thick and thin. Rebecca lived her life fully, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Rebecca’s life will begin on Friday, March 4, 2016 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1039 W. 32nd St, Chicago, IL 60608. Per Rebecca’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services held at the funeral home.
