Raymond A. Sameck
Age 91, born and lived in Joliet/Crest Hill area all of his life, passed away peacefully at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home after a short illness. Preceded by parents Louis and Antonia (Stanfel) Sameck, sisters Bernadine Dick, Molly Ramuta, brother Louis Sameck. Also preceded by stepmother Rose (Rom) Sameck, and stepbrothers and sisters. Survived by wife of 64 years, Helen (nee Pikush), son Daniel (Susan) Sameck, sister Josephine (Robert) Luman, sister-in-law Margaret (Anthony) Videtich, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and special niece Joyce Cabay. Joined the CC"s (Civilian Conservation Corp) and served in the Pacific Northwest in forestry. He then served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant in motor pool during WWII. Employed by U.S. Steel, Joliet Works and worked for approximately 38 years in the shipping department. Ray was also an auto mechanic (Ray"s Garage) for many years. Ray loved his family, working in his yard, playing cards and puttering around in the garage. He also enjoyed coffee at McDonald"s in Crest Hill with his buddies. Longtime member and usher at St. Joseph Church, member of Holy Name Society and KSKJ. Special thanks to Dr. R.W. Schubert, the nursing staff (4th floor Provena St. Joseph Medical Center), and the super staff at Joliet Area Community Hospice. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice in Ray"s name would be appreciated.
Prayer services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 then will proceed to St. Joseph Church Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10AM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be TODAY Sunday from 2 to 6PM, St. Joseph Holy Name will meet at 4 P.M.
