Passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center at the age of 90.
Survived by his devoted wife of twenty-four years, Margaret (nee Zoran); his step-daughters, Joan (Edward) Erickson and Jane (Kenneth) Markarian; four grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn (late Chris) Neff; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph August and Mabel (nee Gallagher) Maday; and his brother, Robert Peter (Verna Mae).
Raymond was born December 14, 1916 in Joliet. Ray attended Moran School, Saint Raymond Grade School, and graduated in 1934 from Joliet Catholic High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force in North Africa and Europe. He was a life member of the Cantigny VFW Post 367. For over thirty years he worked as an electrical engineer at General Instrument Corporation. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed swimming, bowling and tennis, as well as playing the piano, organ, saxophone, accordion, and bassoon. His family and friends loved to gather around the piano while Ray played their favorite songs. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care provided by the staff at Vitas Hospice, Rosewood Care Center, and the Inn at Willow Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Ray's memory to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, Saint Ambrose Church, or a charity of choice.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, at Saint Ambrose Church, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Father Doyle officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery Memorial Chapel. Military rites will be accorded.
