Age 94. At rest Monday January 16, 2012 at her home with her nephew and niece by her side.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph R. Vershay (2005); her parents, Frank and Anna (nee Chmielewski) Nowakowski; a sister, Clara (Ray) Kromraj, and a brother, Frank Nowakowski.

Survived by her sisters; Evelyn Nowakowski, Ann (Wally) Clemins, and Lucille (Tony) Maglio; her sister-in-law Priscilla Nowakowski all of Wisconsin; her special nephew and niece, Joseph and Mary Babich. Numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Phyllis was born in Milwaukee, WI and has resided in Plainfield for most of her lifetime. She retired from Sears & Roebuck Co. as a Business Office Manager after over 30 years. Phyllis was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Slovenian WomenA�??s Union. She was a Past President of Cantigny Post #367 Ladies Auxiliary, was also the Auxiliary Chaplin, and worked the fish fryA�??s for many years. Phyllis was a member of the Joliet Elks, the Joliet Moose Lodge #300, and Our Lady of Angels LadiesA�?? Auxiliary.

Phyllis was very proud of her Polish heritage and was a very patriotic American. Phyllis was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her doctors; Dr. Doyle, Dr. Orenic, Dr. Allen, and her caregivers; Iliyana and Jelya, and the Joliet Community Hospice Staff; Mary, Linda and Deacon Tom.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Joliet Area Community Hospice in her name would be appreciated.

Funeral services for Phyllis Vershay will be Friday January 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday morning from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
