Nicholas G. Manikas

Nicholas G. "Nick" Manikas, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.

Nick is survived by his loving brother, George (Shirley) Manikas; dear nieces and nephews, Janet (Steven) Erio, Linda (Bob) Walker, George (Laura) Manikas, John (Suzan) Chase Jr., Robert (Laly) Chase, and Deborah (Dan) Ochs; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Constantine and Frances (nee Geryk) Manikas; sisters, Mary (Jack) Chase, Effie (Pete) Pomykala; and nephew, James Pomykala.

Nick was a member of American Legion Harwood Post #5. He served proudly in the U.S. Army with the 85th Division in Italy and North Africa during WWII. He received three Purple Hearts, the Army Infantry Badge and his European Theater Ribbon holds several battle stars. Nick worked as a printer for the American Institute of Laundering for 36 years. Nick was a great brother, uncle, and friend, and will be missed by all.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Brookdale Joliet/Emeritus for their care over the past 7 years, as well as to all of the doctors and their staff who provided care for Nick.

A Celebration of Nick's life will begin on Saturday, December 13, 2014 with a visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435, then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
