Age 78. Passed away peacefully Tuesday June 5, 2012 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.
Survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Ronald E. Thorndyke; her beloved sons; David (Debbie) Owen, and Gary (Lisa) Owen; her loving step-children, Peg (late Dennis) Jupe, Jean (Steve) Hannah, and Mark (Sue) Thorndyke; numerous cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her loving sisters and brothers, Rosemarie (late Raymond) Novak, Pat (late Gerald J.) Jaskowiak, Lois (late Robert) Noble, Ernie (Ruby) Legan, Judy Legan, Joni (Steve) Clyatt, and Tom Legan (Theresa). Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Stella (nee Slapnicar) Legan, and one brother, Jim Legan.
Nancy was born in Rockdale and was a lifelong Joliet area resident. She graduated in 1951 from St. Francis Academy. Nancy retired in 2001 from Catholic Holy Family Society as an Executive Secretary after 43 years of dedicated service. She was an active member and Recording Secretary of the Catholic Holy Family SocietyA�??s Executive Board. She loved to travel with her family, and enjoyed entertaining, and being with her family and friends. Nancy and Ronald were volunteers at the Rialto Square Theater for 8 years. Nancy was loved dearly and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Nancy L. Thorndyke will be Friday June 8, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment to St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m.
