Monroe Jones

Age 84 of Joliet, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at home surrounded by the love of his family and loved ones.

Monroe was born on August 3, 1939, in Coffeeville, Mississippi. He was a son of the late Dan Harris, Sr. and Alice Jones.

Moving from Mississippi in the 1960’s, he settled in Joliet for the remainder of his life.

Monroe retired from D’Arcy (previously Vidmar Buick and Fred Emich Ford) in 2005, following 35 years of service.

Monroe loved people and making sure that people felt loved. He always wore a big smile on his face and embodied a warm spirit. No one was a stranger to him. He was a kind and hospitable soul—that will definitely be missed.

Monroe is survived by his loving family:

Children, son: Joe (Tracy) Jones of Joliet, IL, and daughters: Martha Jones, Doris Jones, and Titiana Jones all of Joliet, IL.

Grandchildren: Tierra Jones of Indianapolis, IN, Jermaine (Aleisha Mack) Jones of Joliet, Kierra (Kristopher Matthews) Jones of Plainfield, IL, Kelia Jones, Jeremy Bayless, Jalen (Amber Jones) Jones, Jaida Jones and Kaiya Barber, all of Joliet, IL; Great-grandchildren: TiMariyon, Aamirra, Davion, Camryn, Kyla, Jermaine Jr., Jalia, Kelis, Jamiere, Kali, Kalani and Jaxson; sister-in-law: Dorothy Brown of Country Club Hills, IL; Special friends: Paul Robinson, David Fritz and Annamariaa Dorsey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Monroe is preceded in death by his wife: Leoma Jones; son: Monroe Jones Jr.; sisters: Betsy Harris, Hattie Hogan, Eula Mae Smith, Elizabeth Vallier and Louise Booker, and brothers: James Jones, Orbie Jones, Eugene Harris and Dan Harris, Jr.

A memorial visitation will take place on Friday December 29, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak’s Home To Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL 60435.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 30, 2023, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 18101 W. Oak Ave. Lockport, IL 60441; wake service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., services immediately following.

Interment will be private.
