Michael A. Verchimak
Age 56 of Lincoln, Illinois and formerly of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
Born June 9, 1965 in Chicago, Michael Andrew was a son of Louis J. and Sharlene (Freund) Verchimak. He was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School with the class of 1983. While at Joliet Catholic High School, Michael won the Religion Award and received a scholarship to play basketball for Augustana College in Rock Island. Following graduation, Michael pursued and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree with a triple major in Accounting, Business and Mathematics from Augustana College. Michael worked in Accounting for a few years until pursuing and earning a B.S. in Nutritional Science from Northern Illinois University. After his achievements in academics, Michael felt the need to proudly serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, Michael became the youngest cadet to earn the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
After his time with the United States Navy, Michael was a successful sports nutritionist and worked with several college athletic programs and young athletes. Outside of his professional interests, Michael loved to travel and excelled in the sport of Kickboxing. He was also an advocate for eating “raw foods” and would happily guide anyone that was wanting to learn more about that lifestyle. His most treasured times were always spent with his children and family. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters: Anna and Ava Verchimak; parents: Louis J. and Sharlene, and brother: Matthew J. (Jeanette) Verchimak.
Michael is preceded in death by his son: Adam Michael Verchimak.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service beginning with words of remembrance at 11:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Following the service the funeral will drive in procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood where Michael will receive full military honors and be laid to rest.
