Matthew R. Kochevar
July 28, 1933 — December 24, 2016
Matthew R. Kochevar, age 83, a lifelong resident of Joliet and dedicated educator, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 24, 2016.
Matt’s teaching career spanned 39 years beginning at North Chicago, Joliet Central (1951 Alum) and Joliet West High Schools. Matt was a constant presence at all school activities in support of his students.
Matt received both his Bachelor and Master Degrees from Illinois State “Red Birds” University. He had the starring role in the school play “The Crucible.” Matt was also a United States Army Veteran.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was able to enjoy two World Series wins before leaving this earth.
Matthew is survived by his sister, Barbara Clark; and cousins.
Preceded in death by his father, Matthew Kochevar (2000); mother, Stephanie (nee Novak) (1999); brother, Stephen Kochevar (1964); and brother-in-law, Donald Clark (2016).
He was a member of St. John’s #143 KSKJ, Holy Family Society #1, St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society and St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens Club.
Per Matthew’s, wishes a private interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet. No services will be held.
