Mary Jane Vergo, age 89, of Joliet was received with open arms by her Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Jane was a lifelong Joliet resident. On August 30, 1958 Mary Jane married Ron Vergo, the only person meant for her to spend the rest of her life with. They were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Joliet and their wedding reception was held in her parent’s back yard. As it was the tradition of the time, the neighbors and relatives all pitched in to make the food that was to be served to the guests. Mary Jane attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and Providence High School. Mary Jane was always amazed as to how one couples love could lead to such a large, beautiful family. She was fortunate enough to have four children, their spouses, six grandchildren with their spouses and partners, and five great grandchildren. She knew how to cook like no one’s business. All of her meals were home-made and delicious. Some of the best family memories were sitting at the kitchen table for family dinner every night. Other than being the ultimate homemaker she held a myriad of jobs over the years. Starting with helping out at the family tavern “The Snake Pit,” over the years she also held positions at the telephone company, Institute for American Laundry, Our Lady of Angels, St. Charles Borromeo and Lewis University.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ron Vergo, parents John and Anna (Gregorcic) Papesh Sr., son Stephen, and siblings: John Papesh Jr., Joseph (Mayme) Papesh, Albert Papesh, Stephen (MaryJo) Papesh, Margaret Papesh, Peter (Theresa) Papesh, Michael (Betty) Papesh, George (Verna) Papesh, Ralph (Margaret) Papesh, Bernice Sister Mary Flora Papesh, and Olga (Glenn) Brown and several nieces and nephews.
