Mary C. (Smolich) Schmitt

May 19, 1949 — September 25, 2015

Mary Catherine "Mary Kay" Schmitt (nee Smolich), age 66, entered eternal life on Friday, September 25, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Kay is the loving mother of Nancy (Scott) Lewandowski, Laura (Dan Rush) Schmitt-Mau, and Cathy (Brad) Blankenship; dearest grandmother of Abby, Blake, and Cara Lewandowski, Dylan and Leila Mau, William and Daniel Blankenship; cherished sister of JoAnne (Doug) Marshall; dearest sister-in-law to Robert, Thomas (Cindy), and James Schmitt, Donna (Russ) Meiferdt, Kathy (Jim) Cumpston, and Kathleen (the late Fred) Kruk; Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, William "Bill" (Sept. 25, 2013); parents, Edward and Evelyn (nee Mance) Smolich; brother, John Smolich; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Marjorie (nee Dillon) Schmitt; and brother-in-law, Fred Kruk.

Mary Kay graduated from Joliet Central High School in the Class of 1967. She was formerly employed as an administrative assistant at Argonne National Laboratory, 7-Up Bottling Company, Lockport Park District, and UNO-VEN (currently Citgo). She spent countless days and nights at WRC since 1972 camping with her family and friends. Mary Kay was an avid Blackhawks fan, seamstress, crafter... and she loved to shop! Mary Kay was a passionate mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her gentle and warm heart inspired others. Simply put, Mary was funny, she had a glow, she brightened up the room. The memories she provided to us will live on forever.

A Celebration of Mary Kay's life will begin on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, Deacon Dave Raskowski officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet.
