With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Rose Cusimano, nee Capitino (known affectionately as Grandma Memo), our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Mary was born October 12, 1926 and is survived by sons Joseph (Donna) and Samuel ‘Skip’ (Lottie); grandchildren Gina (Jim) Kopczynski, Jillian (Christopher) Jordan, Noel (Kelly) Hurst, Joe Paul (Lacey) Cusimano, Zachary (Sarah) Cusimano; great grandchildren Andrew, Ava & Lily Kopczynski, Olivia & Owen Jordan, Sawyer, Indi & Hudson Hurst, Wynter Cusimano.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph in 1986, parents Anthony and Catherine Capitino, her siblings Josephine, Angelina and Rosalie Capitino, Maggie (Matt) Fassiotto, Anthony Capitino, Paul (Frances) Capitino, Rose (Tony) Picciolo, Catherine (Tony) Frankovich, Angelina (Rudy) Gerl.
Mary had a profound impact on the many lives she touched with her wonderful smile and warm personality. She loved cooking (grandkids loved her famous pizzelles, ‘Memo Cookies’), golf, bowling, playing cards with her sisters and friends, reading and traveling. Mary never turned down the chance to celebrate life and relished spending time with friends, and most of all, her family. She was also a member of St. Ambrose Church, Women of the Moose and the Joliet Rivals Club. Mary lent her talents to many organizations over the years, starting with a career working for the government. Later, her love of people became her focus, working and volunteering at The Rialto and others.
Mary led by example and instilled strong values in her family, focusing on what’s most important in life – making lasting memories with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that will stay with them for life. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Nora Project (thenoraproject.ngo) or Friendship Circle (friendshipcircle.org), whose missions are close to the family’s hearts, would be appreciated.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 with a memorial visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment of cremated remains will be held privately.
