Mary Book (nee Konjevich)
Age 91 of Channahon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at home with family by her side.
Born May 5, 1929 in Lockport, Illinois, Mary was a daughter of Milos and Martha (Vracar) Konjevich. She was raised and educated in Channahon and graduated from Minooka High School with the class of 1948. Mary was employed by Selective Service and then took a job with the Federal Aviation Administration in Honolulu, Hawaii where she lived for sixty years until retiring and moving back to Joliet in 2015. She resided at Rock Run Memory Care in Joliet for a number of years until transitioning to a private home surrounded by the love of friends and family. Mary was a devoted and longtime member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Pacific in Honolulu and St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Joliet. She was also a member of the Serbian National Federation. Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters: Monica Book Custer and Julie Book McPalmer; brothers: Peter (the late Mavis) Konjevich, Draz (the late Nannette) Konjevich and John Konjevich; sisters: Mildred (Glenn) Zaloudek, Sophie (the late Charles) Anderson and Natalie (Wayne) Suyenaga, and cousins: Diane (the late John) Kelly and Donna (the late Frank) Kovachik.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents: Milos and Martha; husband: Charles Albert Book; brothers: Milorad (Joan) Konjevich, Nicholas (Monica) Konjevich, Sam (survived by Barbara) Konjevich, Milos (survived by Bonnie) Konjevich and Dan Konjevich; mother-in-law: Grace Hall Book; aunts: Millie Konjevich Suca and Sophia Konjevich Roberts, as well as numerous relations in Yugoslavia.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Pomen service at 11:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Following the Pomen service the funeral will process to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church for a 12:00 p.m. funeral service and will be presided by Fr. Aleksander Bugarin. Interment will follow and Mary will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Mary’s memory to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Joliet Area Community Hospice or a charity of your choice.
