Age 87. At rest on October 7, 2008 at Rosewood Care Center in Joliet.
Born in 1921 in Chicago Heights, IL to Slovak immigrant parents, Andros and Maria (Bielek) Briestensky. Came to Joliet in 1927 to live with foster parents, Joseph and Anna (nee Durek) Surjan.
Survived by her daughter, Georgene (James Schaible) Agnich; sons, Frank Jr. (Mary K.), Gerald and Daniel (Linda) Agnich; granddaughters, Amy (Jeff) Chavez and Tina Rose; grandson, Scott Agnich; great-granddaughters, Bianca, Brooklinn and Malaya Chavez; nephews, Robert, Joseph, Anthony and James Haban; cousin, Steven (Carol) Briestensky; nephews, Edward (Judy) Agnich and Donald (Jan) Agnich; nieces, Geraldine Frederick and Carol (Pete) Wiley; foster brother, Edward (Joanne) Surjan; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews also survive.
Preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. (""Gabby"") Agnich; her parents; infant brothers, Emil and Joseph; infant sister, Emilia; stepfather, Anthony Haban; brother, Joseph A. Haban and sister-in-law, Betty Haban; her foster parents; foster brother, Paul Surjan; foster sisters, Mary Jadron, Ann Dolan and Josephine Surjan.
Loving wife and mother who was generous to her family and friends. Enjoyed homemaking, recipes, fishing, bird watching, music, dancing and house plants.
Special gratitude to her Rosewood caregivers, Joliet Area Community Hospice and to Provena Home Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society in Mary's name would be appreciated.
From where services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 9:30 AM to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-7 PM.
