Martin R. Furdek

September 2, 1951 — June 14, 2017

Martin R. Furdek “Shorty”, age 65, at rest on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Martin is survived by sister, Judith A. Kump; brother, Richard Furdek; nephews, Brian and Paul Kump. Special thank you to good friends Ron Hanko, Wayne Walczak, Bob Kauzlaric and Don Wetherholt. Your friendship and concern was greatly appreciated.

Preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Angela (nee Mlakar) Furdek; brother-in-law Andrew Kump.

Martin was a left-handed pitcher for Rivals Little League and Ingalls Park Pony League where he pitched numerous no-hitters. He worked at Caterpillar for 37 years as a machinist. After retiring he enjoyed taking the train to Chicago and exploring the city. He fed the birds and stray cats that stopped to visit; taking in his beloved cat, Mr. Lady. He also enjoyed spending time with his great-nieces Tessa and Darcy Kump. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and will be dearly missed.

Donations in Martin’s name may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Per Martin’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be held privately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
