Martin Paul Alm
Age 85 of Joliet passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.
Born May 25, 1938 in Oak Park, Martin was the son of Edward and Jessie (nee Kunze) Alm. He was raised and educated in the Chicagoland area and went on to proudly serve his country with the United States Army.
Martin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his grandsons, providing “Grandpa Daycare” for them while they were growing up.
His passion was photography, and he was able to live his dream of being a professional photographer and owning his own business. The focus of his business was taking pictures for industrial and department store catalogs, as well as Dominic’s grocery store advertisements, occasionally using his wife and daughter as models.
While the family lived in Beaconridge, he volunteered his photography skills at the annual Christmas gatherings, taking pictures of the families in the community with Santa.
Martin loved the sport of soccer, coaching his son’s teams with his wife, being a referee, and playing the game himself in an adult league. He also volunteered at the Chicago Sting (professional soccer team) games, passing out the free giveaways to attending fans.
In retirement, you could often find him taking pictures of his grandsons, family gatherings, his dogs, and nature; searching the internet to add to his extensive collection of vintage cameras; and creating art with stained glass.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Martin is survived by his daughter: Michelle (Jeremy) Fisher; son: Ryan Alm; grandsons: Logan and Lucas Alm; sister: Sharon (Jerry) Hietala, as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Clarine Susan Alm (nee Paul) who passed away in 2020, and his parents: Edward and Jessie Alm.
Per Martin’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation to celebrate both Martin and Clarine on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Interment will follow and both Martin and Clarine will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
