Marjorie Affrunti

May 2, 1923 — December 20, 2014

Marjorie "Margie" Affrunti (nee Smolak), went home to be with the Lord on Saturday December 20, 2014 at the age of 91. Born in Joliet in 1923 and was a lifelong resident, she graduated from Joliet Central High School in the class of 1941. Marj married Dom Affrunti in 1947.

Marj is survived by her loving daughters, Nancy (Phil) Osborne-Smieszkal and Pamela (Jim) Barrowman; three cherished grandsons, Justin (fiancAC.e Rachel) and Ryan (Robyn) Osborne and Tim (Courtney) Barrowman; great-grandchildren, Gage and Cam Osborne and Brayden Barrowman.

Preceded in death by her husband, Dominic "Dom" Affrunti (1986); parents, Ann and George Smolak; brother, Richard Smolak (2010); as well as numerous in-laws.

Marj was employed as a secretary at Joliet Township High School for 32 years. She was one of four secretaries who organized the Joliet Township High School Clerical Union and served as president for four years. She was also the president of the Phoenix Club for ten years and secretary for one year. Marj served as Eucharistic Minister and a Lector at the Church of St. Anthony in Joliet and was a member of CCW for 20 years. She volunteered at the Rialto Square Theater for 20 years as well. In the year 2003 she was awarded Woman of the Year at the Church of St. Anthony.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to all of the staff and CNA's at the Timbers in Shorewood, her caregiver, Maria as well as her Joliet Area Community Hospice nurses. The love shown to mom was remarkable and everyone who cared for her will always be a part of our family.

In lieu of flowers donations in Marjorie's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Church of St. Anthony in Joliet would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Marjorie's life will begin on Saturday, December 27, 2014 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Romeoville.
