Maria D. Vasquez

Maria D. Vasquez (nee Alonzo), age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 08, 2014 with her loving family by her side.

Maria was born September 6, 1927, in Ottawa, IL to the late Maurilio and Josefina (nee Abarca) Alonzo. Maria is survived by her husband, Manuel G. Vasquez; children, Manuel J. (Teresa) Vasquez of Hazel Crest, Michael M. (Josie) Vasquez of LaSalle Peru, Larry A. (Trina) Vasquez of Wheaton, John T. (Jennye) Vasquez of Burr Ridge and Felisa V. (Tony) Lopez of Plainfield; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Josie (the late Gene) Turner of Streator, Lana Alonzo of Spring Valley, Rita (Alvin "Mort") Cunningham of Streator, Lupe (Larry) Harms of Ottawa, and Linda (Matt) Fitschen of Canton, MO; 3 brothers, Albert (Barbara) of Ottawa, Louis (the late Jeri) of Utica, and Dan (Carol) of Diamond, IL; sisters-in-law, Lena and Nancy Alonzo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by her parents, Maurilio and Josefina Alonzo; three brothers, Gabriel, Joseph and Cubert; and sisters, Isadora and Virginia Alonzo.

Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to knit and crochet. She loved to cook authentic Mexican food for her family. She will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

A celebration of Maria's life will begin on Friday, December 12, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 2-8 p.m.
