Margaret Colombo

December 8, 1931 — October 14, 2017

Margaret “Tootie” Jean (Brown) Colombo, age 85, born December 8, 1931, died October 14, 2017.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Colombo (2010); parents, Robert A. Brown and Crystal Smith Brown Busch; and step-mother, Genevieve Brown.

Survived by her sons, Richard R. (Mary Beth Olson) Colombo and Michael J. (Karen) Colombo; granddaughters, Lynnette and Daun Colombo; half-brother, C. Douglas (Rosalinda) Busch; cousins, Marilyn (the late Paul) Davies, Carol (Joe) Ward and Ralph Ford; numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was born and raised in Joliet, IL. In her earlier years she was a lifeguard at Noel Pool. Margaret was also Co-Owner of Colombo Concrete Construction Co. and kept the books there for 50 years. She was the President of Richland School PTA and a member of the International Order of the Kings Daughters and Sons (Jennie Lee Circle) for over 70 years.

Tootie spent her childhood summers with her grandmother Emily Brown and aunt Peg Ford at her grandmother’s cottage on Crystal Lake in Lawrence Michigan. Together, Margaret and Richard purchased the cottage and spent many happy weekends there with great family and friends. Margaret was a very talented crafter flawlessly painting ceramics, knitting, tole painting, needlepointing and counted cross stitching. These skills accounted for hundreds of Christmas ornaments, quilts and wall hangings that will be cherished forever. Tootie was also an avid bridge player. She will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Will County Union of King's Daughters and Sons would be appreciated.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will begin on Thursday, October 19, 2017 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 3:00 p.m. Per Margaret’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded following visitation.
