Manuel G. Vasquez, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2015, with his loving family by his side.
Manuel was born on June 26, 1923, in Morris, IL to the late Jose and Felisa (nee Garcia) Vasquez. Manuel is survived by his five children, Manuel J. (Teresa) Vasquez of Hazel Crest, Michael M. (Josie) Vasquez of LaSalle Peru, Larry A. (Trina) Vasquez of Wheaton, John T. (Jennye) Vasquez of Burr Ridge and Felisa V. (Tony) Lopez of Plainfield; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, Maria (nee Alonzo) Vasquez; parents, Jose and Felisa Vasquez; one sister, Josefina; and one brother, Enes.
Manuel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved woodworking and working with his hands. He was a World War II Veteran and served in General George S. Patton's Third Army. He loved the Chicago Blackhawks and White Sox and always enjoyed going to the games. He was also very involved at Sacred Heart Parish in Joliet where he was the head usher for 17 years. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
A celebration of Manuel's life will begin on Thursday, September 3, 2015 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet. Stone City VFW Post 2199 will conduct a military service at 6:00 p.m.
